Still Life

The art of still life photography often depicts an inanimate subject matter, that of commonplace objects, as visible in the above image. However due to these constructs of still life, it is perhaps difficult to construct a narrative. In any work I undertake I always attempt to bring a narrative to the piece and thus have devisedĀ one in the above image. I chose to use flowers and the blue painted wine glass not due to simply liking the objects but for the colours. The way the violet of the lower flowers fades into the blue of the glass was aesthetically pleasing to me. With these objects I positioned them slightly off centre to the left of the frame to allow a shadow to fill the remaining frame, which was achieved by lighting the subject from its left. The narrative I was assembling here was that the flowers were growing towards the suns light, reinforcing the warmth of its glow with the red and yellow carded background to display the cascading shadow.
